What Are Zweli-Bags?

Zweli-Bags are thoughtfully curated care packages containing comfort and essential items for young cancer patients to support them on their journey as they brave the unknown.

How You Can Help

Every Zweli-Bag represents hope — a message to a child that they are loved, supported, and never forgotten.
Your contribution, no matter how small, helps us deliver that message in a tangible, heartfelt way.

You can support the Zweli-Bags for Children with Cancer Initiative by choosing one of the giving options below:

Donate a Zweli-Bag — R500

Help us fill a bag with essentials and comfort items — including snacks, a blanket, activity books, hygiene products, and a personal note of encouragement.

🎁 One donation = One Zweli-Bag of comfort and care.

Give What You Can

Every contribution adds up. Whether it’s R50, R100, or more, your donation brings us one step closer to our goal of 100 Zweli-Bags.

Meet Zweli — The Scientist with a Heart for Hope

Zwelakhe “Zweli” Mhlongo is a scientist, researcher, and community builder from Mossel Bay with a passion for turning compassion into action.

By day, Zweli works as a Marine Research Assistant at the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. His background includes a Master of Pathology in Haematopathology from Stellenbosch University, where his research focused on Hairy Cell Leukaemia, and further studies in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

The Zweli-Bags Initiative grew from his awareness of the young cancer patients in his hometown who must regularly travel from Mossel Bay to Cape Town for treatment. He wanted to create something tangible — a reminder that they are not alone.

“I want every child to know they are not alone on their journey. Every step I take on the trail is for them.”
— Zweli Mhlongo

Our Goal for 2025 — Every Step Counts

In November 2025, Zweli will take on the Ultra Trail Cape Town 100 Miler — a 160 km mountain race with 7,516m of vertical gain.

This is more than a race; it’s a mission to raise funds for the first 100 Zweli-Bags, to be donated to young cancer patients at Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital.

Each Zweli-Bag is filled with care and encouragement for a child who travels from Mossel Bay to Cape Town for treatment.

“Every kilometre counts. Every donation matters. Every bag delivers hope.”
